Old Pueblo Jiu Jitsu Open Tournament, May 13th, 2023

Tournament season is in full swing. On May 13th, 2023, we were privileged to participate in the Old Pueblo Jiu Jitsu Open Tournament here in Tucson. Kids, Juveniles, Adults (male and female), Masters (35+ yrs.), and Seniors (43+ yrs.) were able to compete in Gi and No-Gi divisions.

Our school had over 50 competitors register and participate—young and old alike. We are so proud of all our competitors and their warrior spirit. It takes courage to step up and compete in a large gym with lots of spectators and to show grace under pressure while respecting the referees and one’s competitor—win or lose. Our students showed this respect and grace, and we couldn’t be more pleased and prouder.

As a school we won 1st place for the Adults Overall and 3rd place for the Kids Overall. Our competitors did extremely well, winning multiple medals (gold, silver, and bronze). While one hopes and works to win every match, this isn’t always the case. But no matter what, one is always learning. Winning and learning is what keeps our competitors going as they test themselves in the competition arena. Preparing for this takes lots of time and dedication. We’re so proud of our students who took the opportunity to test and better themselves and grow and learn from the experience. We honor them!
