Sharing BJJ with Our Local and Worldwide Community
March 19th, 2023
Supporting our students and community is important to us here at Carlson Gracie Tucson, including our worldwide community. We were so pleased to be able to open our school at the request of one of our students to Alwihda, a Kuwaiti non-profit organization, that takes it upon itself to organize events ranging from coffee meets and BBQs to movie nights and art shows with the main goal of bringing together Kuwaiti students who are studying abroad and to offer them activities that serve to enhance their abroad studying experience.
Sager Alsajari, one of our blue belt students, took it upon himself to coordinate, organize, and help set up a special event at our school, Carlson Gracie Tucson, for Alwihda and his fellow Kuwaiti students at the University of Arizona. His goal and purpose were to bring awareness to the importance of self-defense as well as building a community of respect and brotherhood (and sisterhood) to all.
Under the direction of and with the assistance of Professor André Freire, Sager was able to set up a 2-hour workshop with several Jiu-Jitsu self-defense exercises, starting from the standing position. Not only did everyone have a good time, but the participants also demonstrated a strong commitment to learning the essential techniques of Jiu-Jitsu and displayed great enthusiasm in their willingness to learn from this great martial art.
Thank you Alwihda, Sager, and Professor André Freire for allowing us to share our martial arts vision of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with our local and worldwide community!
